Programs

The library is more than a place for books—it’s a place to connect, learn, and have fun! We offer a wide variety of programs for every age group—our children’s programs offer engaging storytimes and activities and our adult programs feature book clubs, workshops, and social activities.

Explore our program categories to find something that’s right for you, and check the event calendar for upcoming dates and details.

Reading Incentives & Challenges

At McCreary County Public Library, we love celebrating readers of all ages! Our reading programs and challenges are designed to make reading fun, spark curiosity, and encourage lifelong learning. From seasonal challenges to year-round programs like Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, there’s something for everyone to enjoy.

The entrance to Story Book Trail

Enjoy a walk through McCreary County Park while reading a story together! The Readers to Leaders Story Book Trail features 18 book stands along the paved path, each displaying pages from a children’s book.

Stories are drawn from the Dolly Parton Imagination Library and local authors, with new books featured every three months. It’s a fun, active way for families to explore the park, discover great books, and inspire a lifelong love of reading.

Small hands holding a book for children

1,000 Books Before Kindergarten is a fun way to help prepare your child for Kindergarten. For every book you read (yes, repeats count!) your child can color in a dot on the coloring log sheet.

Participating is easy:

  • Sign up in the Children’s Department at McCreary County Public Library.
  • Color in a dot on the coloring log sheet for every book read.
  • Take your completed log to the library to receive your next log, a prize and milestone sticker.
